Privacy

We're a two-person workshop, not a data business. This page says plainly what we hold, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who we are

Bodella is the fabric arm of Greenwood Upholstery, a sole trader, based in Cragg Vale, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.

We are the data controller for everything described here. If you want to ask about any of it, email us — it comes to Shaun or Pat, not a department.

When you order fabric

We take your name, email address, delivery address and what you ordered. We need these to cut the cloth, send it to the right house, and email you a receipt. Without them there's no order. We keep them because we have a contract with you to fulfil.

When you pay

Payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to them and never touch our systems — we couldn't show you a card number if you asked. Stripe passes back a payment reference, the amount, and the delivery address you gave them.

When you order swatches

The same as an order: name, email, address, and which swatches you asked for. Swatch orders carry no delivery charge, but we still need somewhere to post them.

When you use the visualiser

This one deserves a proper explanation, because it involves a photograph of your home.

The visualiser lets you upload a picture of your own chair or sofa and see it re-covered in a cloth you're considering. To do that, your photograph is sent to Google's Gemini image API, which generates the render and returns it to us.

The photograph and the rendered result are stored in our own storage so that if you try the same cloth again you get an instant result rather than waiting. We don't attach your name or email to the image — it's stored against the fabric and a technical identifier only. We don't look through them, publish them, or use them in marketing.

Please don't upload photographs with people, children, pets or personal documents visible in them. The tool only needs the furniture. If you've uploaded something you'd rather we didn't have, tell us and we'll delete it.

You're choosing to upload the photograph, and you can change your mind — ask us and the image goes.

When you ask us a question

If you email us, we keep the email and our reply so we can pick up the thread later. Fabric conversations often run over weeks, and it's no use to either of us if we've forgotten what was said.

When you sign up for fabric news

Just your email address, and only if you type it in and submit it. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and it works.

When you browse

If — and only if — you accept analytics in the banner, we use Google Analytics to see which cloths get looked at, which pages people arrive on, and roughly which part of the country visitors are in. It tells us what to stock. It is not used for advertising, and we don't sell anything to anybody.

If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent. Your choice is stored in a small first-party cookie so we don't ask you again on every page.

Separately, Cloudflare processes requests to keep the site up and block attacks. That's a technical necessity rather than a choice, and it doesn't build a profile of you.

Who else touches your information

We use these companies to run the shop. They act on our instructions and can't use your information for their own purposes.

  • Cloudflare — hosting, the database, image storage, security and analytics delivery.
  • Stripe — taking payments.
  • Google — visualiser image generation, and Google Analytics if you've accepted it.
  • Resend — sending order confirmations and replies.
  • Royal Mail — delivering your cloth.

Some of these are based outside the UK. Where information leaves the UK it's protected by the approved transfer mechanisms — either an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.

We do not sell your information. We never have and we have no plans to.

How long we keep it

  • Order records — six years from the end of the tax year, because HMRC requires it.
  • Visualiser photographs and renders — 12 months, then deleted. Ask sooner and we'll remove them.
  • Emails — two years after the conversation ends, or longer if it relates to an order still being sorted out.
  • Newsletter address — until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics — 14 months.

What you can ask us to do

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy, correct anything that's wrong, delete what we hold where we're not legally required to keep it, stop using it for a particular purpose, hand it over in a portable format, or withdraw consent you've previously given.

Email us and we'll deal with it within a month. There's no charge.

If you think we've handled your information badly and we haven't put it right, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd rather you came to us first, but it's your right either way.

Cookies

We use as few as we can get away with. The necessary ones hold your basket contents and your consent choice — the site doesn't work without them. The analytics ones are set only after you accept, and count visits so we know which pages get used.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.

Children

The shop isn't aimed at children and we don't knowingly collect information about anyone under 16.

Changes

If we change how any of this works we'll update this page and change the date below. If it's a significant change and we hold your email address, we'll tell you.

Talk to us

We're two people in a workshop, not a call centre. If something about this page bothers you, say so and we'll look at it.
